The Sun That Sustains

At Palazzo di Varignana, the sun is more than just light—it’s a precious resource we’ve chosen to harness and transform into clean energy for the benefit of the planet.

In 2024, thanks to a €377,520 European grant, we launched a project for a cutting-edge photovoltaic system with a capacity of 177.2 kWp, installed on the rooftops of several buildings covering a total surface area of 804 m². Construction began in 2024 and was completed in June 2025, featuring Half-Cut monocrystalline panels—a technology that concentrates sunlight to maximize performance even on cloudy days, ensuring both efficiency and durability in challenging weather conditions.

This new installation adds to those already in place on our agricultural estates: 64.64 kWp at the Country House Oliveto sul Lago, 21.32 kWp at the olive mill, and 10 kWp at the winery. Altogether, these systems increase the share of self-produced renewable energy from 0.6% to 6.7% of our total energy needs, avoiding the emission of approximately 50 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year.

This is not about exploiting the sun, but forming an alliance with the most generous resource we have. The new system represents a natural extension of our commitment to energy efficiency, complementing our consumption reduction strategies and the monitoring system introduced in 2023, which also includes carbon footprint measurement according to ISO 14064 standards.

This is not an isolated project—it’s a concrete step toward a circular economy, a journey that links hospitality to agriculture, innovation to tradition, and energy to the landscape. Every panel we install tells the story of a conscious choice to generate long-term value for our land and future generations, turning the sun’s potential into a daily act of regeneration.

While our charging stations for guest vehicles and company vehicles are not yet powered entirely by solar energy, they do benefit from the electricity we generate on site. To date, the 11.5 kW photovoltaic system at the Country House has produced 48,329 kWh, covering 1.3% of Palazzo’s total energy consumption (up from 0.6% in 2023). With the new 177.2 kWp system in operation, we expect to reach a 6.4% share by 2025.

The sun that kisses our hills is the quiet engine of a transformation that goes beyond guest comfort. It is the light guiding us toward a model where sustainability is not a target to reach, but a genuine way of inhabiting the world.
