Royal Concertgebouw and Romanovsky

7 July at 9 pm

On the final evening of the Festival, an extraordinary ensemble will perform composed of the first musicians of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, the greatest Dutch symphony orchestra boasting artistic residencies in the main international halls of cities such as New York, Minsk, Tokyo, Seoul, Vienna, Rome, and Madrid. The program aligns two masterpieces of the repertoire: in the first part of the concert, the soloists of the RCO will execute the Quintet for clarinet and strings by Brahms, while in the second part they will be joined by Alexander Romanovsky, to complete the full-length series of the Piano Concertos by Fryderyk Chopin started in Varignana in 2017. The chosen piece of this year is the First Concerto in E minor op. 11 in a version for piano and strings by the same author.

The musicians

Royal Concertgebouw

Composed of the first musicians of the greatest Dutch symphony orchestra with the same name, the ensemble of soloists of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam performs all over the world, from New York to Minsk, to Tokyo, to Vienna. Its members write about themselves: “We enjoy playing in the orchestra tremendously. However, we like to expand this joy by playing together in a small ensemble as well. Not only is the repertoire of a small ensemble different, but we also feel that chamber music is more personal and intimate. We like to be in close contact with our audience. The energy that results from these concerts is what inspires us most”. They will combine their passion with that of brilliant pianist Alexander Romanovsky, a testimonial of the Varignana Music Festival since its inception, labeled by the New York Times as: “special, not just an extraordinary technician with a flair for color and fantasy but also a sensitive musician and lucid interpreter”.
